Will I Recover From My Illness? KP Astrology Prediction

Recovery is judged from the 1st cusp - the house of the body itself - because the question is about the patient, not the disease.

The question, and what actually decides it

“Whether recovery from illness is promised” is one of the most common things people bring to an astrologer. In Krishnamurti Paddhati the answer does not come from the sign on a house, from a planet sitting in it, or from an aspect. It comes from a single point: the sub-lord of the 1st cusp.

SOURCED — standard KP recovery significations, corroborated across multiple KP sources: recovery/cure is judged from the 1st (vitality restored), 5th (12th-from-6th = end of the disease) and 11th (cure, complete recovery, the 6th-from-6th) cusps; the disease houses 6/8/12 obstruct recovery. This is the deliberate INVERSE of health.json — a 'will I recover' question must reward 1/5/11 and penalise 6/8/12, whereas health.json (disease) does the opposite. Split out so recovery-phrased questions stop being routed to the disease rule (which would invert the verdict). NOTE: online KP sources also give a horary variant judging the 11th-cusp sub-lord (recovery if it signifies 5/11, no cure if 6/12) — consistent with this house set; the engine's plain required-house scoring uses the house set directly.

That sub-lord is examined for what it signifies. If it signifies the houses that support recovery from illness, the matter is promised. If it signifies the houses that oppose it, the matter is denied — and no favourable planetary period will bring it about. This promise-first order is the whole discipline of KP, and it is why the same chart can show a strong-looking period and still deliver nothing.

The houses that must agree

A worked example

Take a chart where the 1st cuspal sub-lord is a planet that, through its own star lord, signifies houses 1, 5 and 11. Every required house is covered, so the verdict is promised. Only now does timing become a meaningful question: the engine looks for a Vimshottari period whose lords also signify 1, 5 and 11, and reports those windows.

Change one thing — suppose that same sub-lord instead signifies house 6, one of the obstructive houses. Now the verdict flips to denied, and it flips regardless of how favourable the running dasha looks. A practitioner who skipped the promise check and read only the dasha would predict the event confidently and be wrong. This is the single most common failure mode KP is designed to prevent.

A third outcome exists between the two. Where the sub-lord signifies the required houses but is retrograde, or is placed in the star of a retrograde planet, KP reads the matter as promised with delay rather than denied — the event comes, but not on the first indicated window.

Why the house choice matters so much

Notice that this question resolves to the 1st cusp — the self, body and overall vitality. Read the same question from the wrong house and every step downstream is wrong: wrong cusp, wrong sub-lord, wrong significators, wrong timing, wrong verdict.
